A safe, supportive space to explore emotional challenges, life transitions, and personal growth grounded in clinical mental health counseling and a whole-person approach through the biopsychosocial spiritual lens, psychotherapy offers the opportunity to be heard, gain clarity, and move forward with greater balance and confidence.

Carter Compassionate Care now offers psychotherapy services only in Colorado.

Therapy and Coaching: Understanding the Difference

Carter Compassionate Care offers both therapy and coaching services, each designed to support different needs.

Therapy is a licensed clinical service that focuses on emotional health, mental well-being, and deeper personal exploration. Psychological assessments and diagnoses are intertwined with this service. It is a service regulated by the state and administered under a licensed supervisor. For this reason Carter Compassionate Care offeres psychotherapy services only in the state of Colorado.

Coaching focuses on lifestyle habits, goal-setting, and practical support for daily routines and wellness in body, mind and soul. Coaching provides access to a network of trusted professionals (Functional Medicine Doctors, Acupuncturists, and Nutritional Response Therapists) and education regarding the details that entail true life balance and wellness—all customized depending upon your needs and goals. Coaching is offered virtually around the world because it is not currently regulated nor does it require a professional license.

Therapy

Coaching

Coaching is NOT psychotherapy. Where psychotherapy can be a deep dive into your psyche and an awareness of the root behind mental health challenges, an opportunity for someone to sit with you in your pain and walk alongside you in your life’s journey; integrative health coaching is a microscopic view of current lifestyle including exercise, sleep and dietary habits which paves the way for the collaborative creation of a roadmap to reach your wellness goals. You will receive an impetus to move forward with greater balance and sense of well-being.

If you’re unsure which is the best fit, guidance will be provided during your initial consultation to help you choose the most appropriate path for you.

No. These services are under completely different contracts. Coaching is not regulated and can be offered to clients around the world. Coaching is not covered under HIPPA and is not a licensed profession. Psychotherapy is a highly regulated profession that must meet specific ethical and legal standards including practicing within the state where the license was issued. Psychotherapy is a deep look into a client’s psyche to treat mental health conditions. Health and Wellness coaching is about current lifestyle, future goals and practical steps for the client to make changes they desire for optimal health and well-being. While the provider maintains current training certifications and mentorship for coaching, coaching is not regulated as professional counseling is.

15. Are coaching and psychotherapy the same thing?

14. Do you provide sessions in Spanish?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hour notice. Late cancellations may be considered a missed appointment, and the session fee will not be refunded.

13. What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

You can book a session directly through the website or by reaching out via email (CarterCompassionateCare@gmail.com) or text (719-377-2230). A free 15-minute discovery call is recommended to help determine if psychotherapy with this provider is the right fit for you.

12. How do I book a session?

No. As of summer 2026, services are offered only as private pay. Session cost is offered on a sliding scale. For some, the private pay cost is the same as paying the deductible required by insurance. If applicable, a superbill may be provided for you to submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. CCC may be able to accept some insurance by 2027.

11. Do you accept insurance or offer superbills?

Yes. Spiritual or faith-based perspectives can be incorporated into therapy upon request and always in a way that respects your personal beliefs and values. This is a collaborative and optional part of the process.

10. Do you offer faith-based or spiritually integrated therapy?

Yes, therapy is completely confidential. Your privacy is respected and protected in accordance with professional and legal standards including HIPPA. Any limits to confidentiality involve your protection and will be discussed in detail during your initial session. A private client portal is offered for secure communication. Though other modes of communication are available such as email or texting, it is recommended to keep that for only scheduling or logistics. Communication of private information via any social media app is NOT allowed.

9. Is therapy confidential?

This stands for Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate. It is a provisional license that is regulated by the state of Colorado. It is given to graduates from a qualified clinical master’s degree program who have passed the jurisprudence examination and have a licensed supervisor. An LPCC therapist meets regularly with an experienced and fully licensed supervisor to offer the best professional treatment for each client and must meet the requirements of the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Also, clients of LPCC therapists are covered by HIPPA. For this reason, psychotherapy is only offered in the state of Colorado in compliance with the rules of the state.

8. What is LPCC?

No. Therapy services are currently available to individuals located only in the state of Colorado, in accordance with licensing regulations.

7. Do you provide psychotherapy to clients outside of Colorado?

Sessions are currently offered virtually allowing you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own space. In person sessions in Colorado Springs will be available by 2027.

6. Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

Session frequency is determined collaboratively based on your needs and goals. Many clients begin with weekly sessions and adjust over time to bi-monthly or monthly support as progress is made. Usually, 10 sessions provided on a weekly basis is a minimum for experiencing true relief and new hope. Clients with long term chronic conditions may need more.

5. How often should I attend therapy?

Myna Carter has completed training in treating ADHD, Autism, depression, anxiety, grief, and OCD. Therapy services support individuals navigating challenged executive function due to neurodivergence such as ADHD, as well as other conditions including but not limited to: burnout, parenting special needs children, intense stress, career changes, life’s transitions, emotional overwhelm and existential crises. Sessions are personalized to your unique experiences and needs.

4. What mental health conditions do you treat?

Therapy at CCC is grounded in clinical mental health counseling and guided by a compassionate, whole-person perspective that is eclectic in nature. Your sessions’ focus depends upon your goals. Evidence-based interventions and techniques supported by an overarching theoretical orientation which fits your needs will be used. Person-Centered therapy is the basis for all CCC interventions though sessions are not purely Rogerian. Attachment theory, emotionally focused theory, cognitive behavioral theory and existentialism as well as some psychodynamic orientation can be used depending upon your needs and preferences. Other modalities which may be drawn upon include Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and the biopsychosocial spiritual model, as well as techniques from Dr. David Grand’s Brainspotting.

3. What is your approach to therapy?

The first session, after the free 15 minute discovery call, is an opportunity for you to feel understood as well as a clinical intake. Much like you would use your Maps app to find the best way to reach your destination, the intake session is a time to explore what you want your destination to be and begin planning the best route to get there. You will have a safe space to share your concerns, ask questions, and begin identifying goals for your time in therapy. The pace is gentle and guided by your comfort level.

2. What can I expect in the first session?

Start with a no obligation FREE Discovery Call to best explore if therapy with CCC is best for you. Therapy for the mind is like going to the gym for your physical body. Keeping your mind in optimal shape is imperative during this time in history where depression, anxiety, neurodivergence and suicidality are so high. Everyone could use someone to walk alongside them without judgement during life’s difficult tests. You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin. If you’re looking for a supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with gentle guidance, therapy at Carter Compassionate Care would be a good fit. But you can take advantage of the Discovery Call and see for yourself.
